The Blood of Jesus, Our Saving Power

“He has entered the sanctuary once and for all through his own blood ” (Heb 9:12).

My dear friends, I wish to reflect on the saving power of the blood of Jesus through which He has paid the ultimate price of our redemption once and for all. The first reading from the book of Hebrew presents two parts of the temple.  The first is the holy place which is often entered by the priest while the second – the Holy of Holies is entered once a year for the sacrifice of atonement in the order of worship in the old covenant.

The priest, in entering the Holy of Holies in this old covenant, sprinkled the blood of bull and of goat on the mercy seat to make atonement for the sins of the people. But in the new covenant, Jesus being the high priest of the new covenant entered the Holy of Holies (Heaven to be precise) not by the sprinkling of the blood of goats and bulls, but by his own blood. And by so doing, he secured an “eternal redemption” for all. There is no other blood that could have achieved this if not the blood of Christ.  No wonder the bible says that “in Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Eph 1:7). That is to say that the blood of Jesus is the most purifying, saving and healing power that is. Through His blood, he paid our debt once and for all and we are forgiven. Through his blood, he reconciled us with God and restored our dignity in our relationship with him. Through his blood, he healed our infirmity carried out diseases.

My dear friends, the blood of Jesus can do more than we can ever imagine. There is great power in the blood of Jesus and that is the reason behind its invocation. Whenever we invoke the blood of Jesus, we do that as an active thing for He is always there to support us and supply us with all our needs. It redeems us from sin, and purifies our hearts and minds. It protects us from every attack of the evil one, harm, sickness and gives us confidence. It brings us closer to God and gives us Divine protection. The power of the blood of Jesus should never be underestimated. It is huge and powerful. Let’s keep invoking this power at all times for our salvation.

Peace be with you.
