Cast Your Burden Unto the Lord

Dear brothers and sisters, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).

God Reveals Himself

The encounter of Moses at the burning bush was a dramatic and mysterious one. I wonder what our reactions would be if any of us were to have such a dramatic experience in today’s world. The message of the event was not in the drama but God’s revelation of himself.

God reveals himself to us every day in a unique and particular way. Though it might not be as dramatic as the one of Moses. Whether as He did in the days of Moses or as in different situations and circumstances of our individual lives, His revelation of Himself has always been for the good and well-being of His children. In every revelation of Himself, he has consistently shown us that He is a God who never changes. The immutable I AM. A name through which He is known for all ages.

God Always Intervenes

God’s message to Moses was: go and tell my people. I am the Lord, the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I am concerned about you. And about the way you are being treated in Egypt. So I have decided to lead you up out of the misery of Egypt to the promised land.

Reading through this passage, I cannot but feel the love of this awesome God to his people. The message is so sublime and lovely that God’s affection for his people is palpable. He let His people know that He is unchangeable. He continues His loving and saving act just as He did with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Similarly, in our lives, He always intervenes and continues to show us his love. He continues to liberate us from precarious or dangerous situations, difficult conditions, and perilous circumstances. He is faithful to His name, the ever “I am who am.”

Cast Your Burden To The Lord.

The Responsorial Psalm reminds us, “The Lord remembers his covenant forever” (Ps. 105:8). God the Father revealed to Moses that He cares and is concerned about the plight of his people Israel. The old covenant people. Likewise,God the Son in the Gospel shows us that He cares and is concerned about us. We are the new Israelites, the new covenant people. Thus, Jesus invites us in the Gospel message to cast our burden unto Him. He said, come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. In Jesus Christ, we find rest. He is our place of refuge and our peace. Let us listen to this divine invitation. We need to cast to him every part of our lives that are troubled and stormy, the causes of our anxieties and depressions, our sins, and all life struggles that are beyond our control.

Following through with this invitation sometimes proves challenging because we always want to be in charge and control things. We erroneously feel to have answers to each of our problems. But deep within us, we know that such a feeling is self-deception. Therefore, let us turn to Christ in prayers and cast our burdens unto Him. Let us establish a relationship with Him and let go of our grip.

Always remember that Jesus loves you!
