“Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.”
Bring the Children
Today’s Gospel Acclamation is so interesting. It ties into today’s Gospel, where people were bringing their children to Jesus for Him to touch and bless them, but it caused the disciples of Jesus to become irritated with this. Jesus rebuked his disciples for their behavior and asserted “let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
The innocence of a child is so refreshing, especially in today’s cynical world. Children look up to adults, especially their parents and other relatives. They have no guile or malice; they are not born with prejudice; they are honest, open, and forthright. They say what they mean and mean what they say.
Rigid
As we get older, we tend to become set in our ways, habits, and thoughts, possibly coming across as inflexible, obstinate, hard-headed. Some of the Pharisees could be characterized this way with their strict adherence to every letter of the law and being so rigid in their beliefs, that compassion and understanding were often overlooked.
God wants us to be child-like in our attitudes, especially by being dependent upon Him, and being obedient to Him, just like kids are with their parents. Jesus went on to say “Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.”
I am happy to call myself a child of God. Are you?
Beautiful message to go to God with a childlike love, trust and dependency. Thank you.
