Feast Day of Saint Mary Magdalene

The Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene is a very special day, and she is a very prominent Saint whose impact is well known. In today’s readings, there are several texts that really stood out to me that I believe deserve attention.

“So, whoever is in Christ is a new creation.”

Mary Magdalene is a prime example of renewal in Christ. Though she had a past, she handed her former life over to the Lord by repentance of her sins, and she then began traveling with Jesus by proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Mary Magdalene is just like each one of us. She was a sinner, but now she is a Saint. Though we are not yet currently Saints, I do believe that there is much hope in becoming one by looking at the Life of Mary. We too can begin a new Life in Christ. We too can become Saints.

“My soul is thirsting for you”

Another verse that drew my attention was “My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God, you are my God whom I seek.”

Mary Magdalene was the first person to see the empty tomb and to hear the truth about His resurrection. She then followed his command by telling the disciples what he had said to her. “I have seen the Lord.”

Mary is a Saint because she sought out the Lord and Loved Christ with the fullness of her heart. Her tears at the empty womb are an example of her precious love for Christ. Her soul was truly thirsting for Christ.

Are you seeking the Lord with all your heart in every moment of your Life? Are you allowing Christ to quench your thirst?

These are questions that I believe we should all ask ourselves daily, after all, reflection turned to action on those words could unlock the keys to Sainthood in our lives.
