Made Anew

“Behold, I make all things new” Revelation 21:5. Last week marked the one-year date of me falling and breaking both of my wrists and then needing bilateral surgery. I had a metal plate put in each wrist. To commemorate the day, I made a reel, or a video of pictures and videos to music, documenting the gruesome bruises and swelling of the initial incident and then the recovery.

As someone who is not very confident with electronics, I was pleased with the end result. A little souvenir if you will. Do the plates count too?

Fitting Bible Verse

A friend who has been cheering me on during the recovery quickly commented on the reel giving encouragement and then quoted the bible verse above. How fitting. When I looked up the readings for today, I could not help but smile at God. No coincidences, I like to say.

These readings are packed with goodness but let us start with this verse in the second reading from Revelation. I am constantly drawn to meditating and thinking about this Jubilee Year of Hope. Even on days when things quite literally feel like they are falling apart, I am reminded, Hope. This verse seems to complement hope. It is telling us that God can make beauty from ashes. He can take a terrible situation or circumstance and make good from it. God can heal our wounds, our brokenness, our ugly sinfulness.

Love One Another

We then hear in the gospel of John, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” In a world that feeds on division and derisive behavior, let us make a mental commitment to love one another better. Who better to be our example than Our Lady. It is the month of May. The month dedicated to Mary. Below is a daily consecration to Our Blessed Mother:

My Queen, my Mother! I give myself entirely to thee, and to show my devotion to thee I consecrate to thee this day, my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my whole being without reserve, Wherefore, good Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, guard me, as thy property and possession. Amen.
