Today, from the Gospel of Mark, I want to focus on Jesus’ presence and explore the significance in having a relationship with Him. Although Jesus establishes and orchestrates our lives, there are defining moments in which He enters and manifests His spirit and presence to us. The moment, or encounter, with Jesus might be far and few for some people or more regular for others. The Sacraments of the Catholic Church invite us, humanity, into a relationship with Jesus. These Sacraments unite us to God and fill us with the Holy Spirit.
Defining Moments
Maybe one of the Sacraments of Initiation really enlightened you. Maybe for you there was a particular Mass or time at Adoration that it really hit you that Jesus desires a relationship with you. Perhaps you were profoundly consoled by His presence in your life. Or maybe someone selflessly helped you in a time of struggle and burdens. You came to realize how much more Jesus goes to aid and support us in our sufferings. What are your defining moments of encounter where Jesus entered, or revealed Himself, into your life?
God was always there from the beginning of your conception. He has never left your side and continuously wants to enter and keep a close relationship with you. He is not afraid of your mess. Frankly; He already has knowledge of it all. But, with all of His power, He wants to heal you just as he did to the man with the withered hand. His will is to form and direct you into the crevasses of His love. And, transform you into sons and daughters. He goes beyond the norms to do what is needed, and we see that with the man cured!
Incarnational Evangelization
Defining moments of encounter or conversion can be profound or heart-throbbing, making you smile radiantly or sob. I’ve had both! We, as Catholics, have the opportunity to share this good news of encounter and Christ’s manifestation with others in our communities! This is incarnational evangelization! Sharing how Christ is active, alive, and present in your life to others. Your personal account of Jesus is what can change how others perceive our faith and be well of life-giving grace. These encounters reveal the truths about our faith. In a culture where humanity is on the search for more, proclaim the truth of how Jesus wants a relationship and pose the question to others. Will you give permission for the Lord to enter and manifest His presence and power in your life? This week, I invite you to check out the article: Incarnational Evangelization: The Art of Accompaniment by Fellowship of Catholic University Students.
