Devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Mary

It was an interesting week with the computer. The latest mishap was Father’s laptop issues, coupled with an 18-hour drive from his “former parish” to a military base out East. Congratulations on the move!

His reflection on his now lost Reflection for Today has to do with the Devotion of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. By Divine Providence, this is a prayer set I complete each morning. The devotion was started by St. Bridget. The Blessed Virgin Mary will grant seven graces to the souls who honor her daily by meditating on her tears and pains (sorrows).

What Are the Seven Sorrows?

I pray for them chronologically. We start with the Prophecy of Simeon. Then the Flight to Egypt. Next the loss of the child Jesus in the temple. Jesus and Mary meeting on the Way to Calvary. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus. Jesus being laid into Mary’s arms (like the Pieta statue). And, the burial of Jesus.

I will not bother you with how I reflect on these each morning, but it sure helps remind me that we all suffer huge things and small things. I try not to forget the little things Mary did for Jesus. Like if he forgot his lunch at home and she had to run it to school, or if he broke something, or other kid’s things.

If you have a chance to look it up the prayers or get a prayer guide, that would be great. I cannot share the link to a website because the computer program does not like that.

Mary, pray for us as we pray for you!

P.S. Thank you Father Sylvanus Amaobi , for all the reflections you have done for GVM. Enjoy the new assignment.
