Dear Brothers and Sisters, today’s gospel reading is on the genealogy of Jesus. While this is extremely important, instead I would like to focus on this third week of Advent. This past Sunday at Mass, the priests wore their rose-colored vestments. I say that with a little giggle as I type because we used to have a pastor that did not like to call them pink. He always made a point of reminding the church that he wore rose.
Reflect
I love this point in Advent because it marks the halfway point more or less. It causes me to pause and reflect on how I have lived the season thus far. Do I need to make adjustments? Quieter pray time? Perhaps give a bit more of myself to others? Or, offer more goods to those who are in need?
This year, my husband and I had quite a surprise. Our ten-year-old daughter, unbeknownst to us, coordinated a canned goods food drive within her class at school. She collected close to 300 cans for the poor. Her teacher emailed me and asked if we could get them to the proper charity.
Talk about joy! We were overwhelmed with it. I hope you too, are able to find the joy in this season of preparation. If your external circumstances are not great, delight in the Lord. Delight in His coming! For He is nearly here.
