Behold The Children of God

Today’s gospel reflection comes with a message of joy and an admonition.

As we continue to celebrate the joy of our Lord coming into the world for our salvation, Scripture expounds in today’s readings to understand the ramifications of this miraculous birth. Not only does the Lord provide us with His love and mercy, but also His brotherhood. Adopting us into God’s family. This is profound that we who were once strangers to God have been brought near to Himself by this baby in a manger. He grew up among us, called us his own and introduced us to true love and mercy. The blind were given sight, the lame were given a new stride, and the tormented were set free. And before His final act of love, He gave those who accepted Him the power to become children of God.

Sin

Which brings us to the admonition in today’s readings. We are told the Christians (children of God) lead virtuous lives imitating our Lord while those who sin reject Christ. Yet, a child of God can be distinguished by the way they live their lives knowing well that sin is ever present and their fellowship with God can be placed in jeopardy by sin.

Therefore, let us resolve in this new year to live in close imitation of the Lord that the world may know us by our works and come to know Him and His glory, mercy, and love.
