Talents and Other Phrases

The readings of today have a special meaning for me, as there are “family” quotes buried in there. These “phrases” often pop out during family talks or texts. Talents also get discussed. Sort of like inside family jokes.

“Well done, my good and trusted servant.”

If a child or family member finds something that was lost or returns a lost item, we might use this phrase. “Well done, my good and trusted servant” might also be uttered in other situations, like at a store.

On a darker side, if someone is sent outside after dark to bring out the garbage, the outside might be called the place where there is “wailing and gnashing of teeth.” It was never that bad, but a clever way to work the Bible into every day or every week conversations.

Talents

The word talents also gets used frequently. We try to discuss what our children and family members are good at. What are their natural “talents.” Some people have certain talents that can be utilized for others…it is most efficient that way.

Funny how the Bible just sort of seeps into conversations if we let it. Reading the Bible and remembering certain parts to use later could be a good goal for this summer. Perhaps look through the Bible or use the internet to find phrases to “quote” this summer. It just might be a talent that you discover and can let it grow, because those who are given much should share a lot.
